Recently I started my new, very part-time, consulting activities as a Study Abroad Research Consultant for the Center for Global Education at the University of California, Los Angeles http://www.globaled.us/about.asp. This ties in to my work in the early 2000’s on the annotated research on study abroad bibliographies [http://www.globaled.us/ro/] which are, as you can guess, in the process of an update. These are the main annotated research on study abroad bibliographies I compiled. Updates to my specialized annotated bibliographies: Research, Assessment and Evaluation on International Education, Education Abroad and Its Value in the Job Market, Faculty Members Abroad, Female Students Abroad, Heritage Seeking in Education Abroad and Research on Underrepresentation in Education Abroad will come after completion of my dissertation. You can access these specialized annotated bibliographies at https://davidcomp.wordpress.com/research-projects/.
In late January, 2011 I will be in Washington, DC (most likely just for the day) to serve as a national selection panel member for the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program. A description of the CLS Program from their website [http://www.clscholarship.org/] follows: “A program of United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program will offer intensive summer language institutes overseas in thirteen critical need foreign languages for summer.”
On February 4, 2011 I’ll be in Houston attending and facilitating a breakout session at the joint IIE/AACC workshop for Community Colleges entitled “Internationalization at the Community College: Best Practices Workshop”. My breakout session is entitled “Social Media Tools for the Community College”. You can register for and access the workshop agenda at http://www.iie.org/en/Who-We-Are/News-and-Events/Events/2011/Community-College-Best-Practices-Workshop.
Due to my current work at the University of Chicago and my dissertation research my consulting activities are limited to smaller projects. If you need assistance with a project or strategic planning matters related to international education please be in touch. If I cannot take on the project I may still be of assistance as there are a number of other great people I can refer you to.
